PROGRAM DETAILS
When you touch down in Kathmandu, our trusted local partners will be there to greet you with a warm smile and take the hassle out of arriving in a new country. You’ll be transferred to your hotel, where your Wanderlust Trails hike lead will meet you and welcome you into the group. Over a refreshing drink, you’ll have time to settle in, exhale, and soak up the excitement of what lies ahead.
In the afternoon, we’ll gather for a relaxed trek briefing, giving you the chance to ask questions, connect with your fellow travellers, and feel fully prepared for the days ahead. That evening, we’ll share our first dinner together at a traditional Nepalese cultural restaurant – a beautiful introduction to the food, music, and spirit of Nepal.
Your first night will be spent in a comfortable 4-star hotel in the thriving Thamel locale, resting up for the adventure to come.
After breakfast, we’ll step out into the vibrant streets of Kathmandu for a guided half-day tour of the city’s UNESCO World Heritage sites. From sacred temples to colourful marketplaces, you’ll be immersed in the rich culture, history, and spirituality that make Nepal so unforgettable.
By early afternoon, we return to the hotel where the pace slows. This is your time to prepare for the trek ahead – whether that’s picking up last-minute essentials, repacking your gear, or simply sharing the excitement with your fellow Wanderlust women. Your trekking guide will also meet with the group, ensuring you feel fully supported and ready for the adventure to come.
In the evening, we’ll come together again for a group dinner in the vibrant Thamel district, where the energy of Kathmandu truly comes alive. Over delicious Nepalese cuisine and lively conversation, friendships will deepen and anticipation for the trek will grow.
You’ll then return to your comfortable 4-star hotel for another good night’s rest before our Himalayan journey begins in earnest.
After breakfast, we’ll meet our guide and head to the airport for a short but spectacular flight to Pokhara. From the right side of the plane, the Himalayas stretch out in all their glory – a breathtaking preview of the adventure ahead.
On arrival, we take a scenic drive to Kade, where the trekking begins. Boots laced and spirits high, we’ll start with a steady uphill climb to Australian Camp. The effort is well rewarded with sweeping views of the Annapurna range – the graceful curve of Fishtail, the strength of Himchuli and Annapurna South, and the distant majesty of Dhaulagiri. Together, we pause here, catching our breath and soaking in the magic.
From there, the trail meanders along a ridge with picture-perfect vistas until we reach Potana village for lunch. Over a simple but nourishing meal, conversation flows easily – encouragement, laughter, and the joy of being on this path together.
Re-energised, we continue our climb through tranquil forest to reach Deurali, a peaceful mountain junction village where we’ll spend the night. Our tea house lodge is cosy and welcoming, offering a chance to connect with fellow trekkers, enjoy a hot meal, and soak in the mountain atmosphere after a rewarding day on the trail. As the sun sets behind the peaks, we’ll share stories and laughter, settling into the rhythm of life in the Himalayas.
2100 metres | 4 – 5 hours trekking
After breakfast, we set off from Deurali along a trail framed by towering oaks, maples, and vibrant rhododendrons. The morning path is mostly gentle, giving you space to breathe, take in the forest’s serenity, and enjoy the company of your fellow Wanderlust women. Nature’s soundtrack – birdsong, rustling leaves, and the occasional glimpse of wildlife – provides a soothing backdrop as we make our way to Forest Camp for a leisurely lunch.
The afternoon brings a gradual ascent toward Low Camp. The day is longer than yesterday, but the combination of effort, stunning scenery, and shared encouragement makes every step worthwhile. Along the way, there are plenty of moments to pause, capture the beauty, and simply soak in the calm of the mountains.
Our tea house lodge at Low Camp is welcoming and cosy, offering a perfect spot to rest tired legs, enjoy a hearty meal, and share stories with the group. As evening falls, laughter, camaraderie, and the soft glow of lanterns create a warm, magical Himalayan experience.
2970 metres | 6 – 7 hours trekking
After breakfast, we set out for High Camp, the highest point on our Mardi Himal journey. The trail winds in gentle zigzags through a vibrant rhododendron forest, eventually opening onto Badal Dada, where panoramic views of the Annapurna Range begin to unfold.
Today’s trek is a little easier than previous days, giving you the chance to pause, breathe, and really soak in the incredible scenery. As the trees thin and the landscape becomes more rugged, the mountains stretch endlessly around you – a humbling and awe-inspiring reminder of the beauty you’ve worked to reach.
At this altitude, we take things slowly, staying hydrated and pacing ourselves to fully enjoy the surroundings. Every step brings new vistas, and the sense of accomplishment grows as you approach High Camp.
Our tea house at High Camp is cozy and welcoming, offering the perfect place to rest, enjoy a warm meal, and reflect on the day’s adventure. As the sun sets over the peaks, there’s a quiet sense of triumph, a moment to savour the mountains and the journey so far.
3540 metres | approx 4 hours trekking
Today is the highlight of the Mardi Himal trek! You’ll rise early, around 4 AM, to begin the ascent to the viewpoint or base camp. Starting at dawn gives you the best chance to witness the mountains bathed in golden light, while the crisp morning air keeps the path calm and serene.
The trail to the viewpoint mixes gentle slopes with steeper sections, offering a varied hiking experience. Depending on the season, you may encounter snow along the way, which adds a touch of adventure and requires careful footing. For those trekking in winter, crampons are recommended for added safety.
Upon reaching the viewpoint, the panorama is breathtaking: a full 360-degree view of the Annapurna Range and the surrounding landscape. If you’re feeling strong, you can continue on to Base Camp, a short additional trek of 45 minutes to an hour. Either way, reaching this point is a true achievement, and a moment to pause, breathe, and take in the immensity of the Himalayas.
After soaking in the scenery, we retrace our steps back to High Camp for a delicious lunch before beginning the descent to Low Camp. The downhill journey offers another chance to appreciate the beauty you may have missed on the way up, from misty valleys to sparkling rivers. Today is one of the longest days on the trek, but arriving at Low Camp brings a satisfying sense of accomplishment, framed by the incredible mountain vistas and the quiet satisfaction of a day well spent.
Our tea house lodge at Low Camp is welcoming and cosy, the perfect place to rest, enjoy a warm meal, and reflect on the day’s unforgettable experiences.
4500 metres | approx 8 hours trekking
After breakfast, we begin the final leg of our trekking adventure, heading downhill to Siding. The journey takes approximately two and a half to three hours, giving you a chance to reflect on the incredible effort, stunning landscapes, and memories made along the trail. For those preferring a gentler path, the alternative route via Deurali and Dampus offers a more gradual descent.
Upon reaching Siding, we transfer to a vehicle for a scenic drive back to Pokhara, where the lakeside city provides a perfect setting to celebrate this milestone. After checking into your comfortable 4-star hotel, the afternoon is yours to relax, stroll by the lake, or enjoy a quiet drink while soaking in the stunning surroundings.
In the evening, we’ll gather for a celebratory dinner by the lake, toasting to the achievement of completing the Mardi Himal trek and sharing stories from the trail. While the trekking portion may be over, there are still a few more days of cultural exploration, local experiences, and breathtaking scenery ahead – a wonderful reminder that the adventure continues.
Approx 2-3 hours trekking
Spend the day in beautiful Pokhara with a special visit to the Women’s Skills Development Organisation, a grassroots initiative empowering women at risk through traditional crafts. In the evening, we’ll gather for a lakeside group dinner, followed by time to browse the night markets for souvenirs and soak up the vibrant local atmosphere.
For those who wish, we’ll finish the night with live music by the lake, a joyful way to celebrate our journey together.
After breakfast, you have the unforgettable option of taking a helicopter tour to Annapurna Base Camp, a spectacular way to see the Himalayas from above and capture sweeping views that few ever experience. Whether you choose to take to the skies or simply enjoy a relaxed morning, this is a final chance to savour the grandeur of the mountains before returning to the city.
Following the heli tour, we fly back to Kathmandu, where you’ll check into your comfortable 4-star hotel. There’s some free time to shop for souvenirs, pick up keepsakes for family and friends, or simply soak in the city’s vibrant energy one last time.
In the evening, we come together for a celebratory farewell dinner, sharing stories, laughter, and memories from the journey. It’s the perfect way to honour the adventures you’ve had, the mountains you’ve conquered, and the friendships formed along the way. Afterwards, enjoy a peaceful final night in Kathmandu, resting comfortably and reflecting on the unforgettable experiences of your Nepalese
Approx 2-3 hours trekking

As you bid farewell to Nepal, take a moment to reflect on the mountains you’ve trekked, the vibrant cities you’ve explored, and the friendships and memories that will stay with you long after you return home. Frequently Asked Questions
This trek is designed for women with a moderate level of fitness who enjoy regular walking or hiking. You don’t need to be an elite athlete — if you can comfortably walk for 4–6 hours a day on varied terrain, you’ll be well-prepared.
There are some uphill sections and higher altitudes (up to around 3,600m at High Camp), but the pace will be steady, with plenty of breaks to rest, enjoy the scenery, and support each other.
To help you feel confident, Wanderlust Trails provides a customised training plan and optional group training walks in the lead-up to the trek. These are designed to build your endurance and strength gradually, so you’ll arrive in Nepal feeling prepared and excited.
If you already walk regularly, attend fitness classes, or enjoy cycling/yoga/pilates, you’ll adapt well — it’s more about stamina than speed.
Most days involve between 4–6 hours of walking with plenty of breaks to rest, enjoy the views, and take things at a comfortable pace. The longest day is around 7–8 hours (including breaks), but the group moves together, and no one is left behind.
The highest point of the trek is Mardi Himal High Camp (3,585m) and the Mardi Himal viewpoint (4,200m). While this is high, it is generally considered safe with a gentle pace and proper acclimatisation. Your experienced Nepali guides will monitor the group carefully. We’ll walk slowly, stay hydrated, and rest when needed.
In Kathmandu and Pokhara, we’ll stay in boutique-style hotels with modern comforts. On the trek, we’ll sleep in mountain tea houses — simple yet welcoming lodges run by local families. Rooms are typically twin-share with basic amenities. While facilities are rustic, the views, atmosphere, and sense of connection more than make up for it.
No. Porters will carry your main bag during the trek, so you only need to walk with a small daypack for essentials (water, snacks, camera, layers). This makes the trekking experience much lighter and more enjoyable.
You’ll be part of a small group of like-minded women, mostly aged 45–70, who share a love of walking, nature, and adventure. Many come on their own and quickly form friendships that last long after the trek.
Absolutely. In fact, many women join Wanderlust Trails solo. You’ll be matched with a roommate for the trek, and we’ve found that sharing the journey often becomes one of the highlights of the trip. (Please note: single supplements are not available on this trek due to the nature of the accommodation.)
No prior trekking experience is required. If you already walk regularly, enjoy hiking, or do activities like cycling, yoga, or pilates, you’ll adapt well. This trek is more about stamina than speed, and with preparation support, most women in our community are pleasantly surprised by what they can achieve.
On trek, meals are simple but nourishing, with a mix of Nepali staples (like rice, lentils, and vegetables) and basic Western options (soups, omelettes, pancakes, pasta). In Kathmandu and Pokhara, you’ll enjoy boutique hotel breakfasts and a wide choice of restaurants.
Vegetarian diets are easily accommodated, while vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free needs can often be managed with some flexibility. However, in rural tea houses, options are limited and cross-contamination is possible, so bringing a few favourite snacks is recommended.
Severe allergies (e.g. nuts or shellfish) may be difficult to guarantee against in remote areas — please let us know if this applies to you. Our guides will always do their best to support your needs.
The trek reaches a maximum altitude of 3,585m at High Camp (with an optional viewpoint at 4,200m). While this is considered moderate, some people may choose to take altitude sickness medication (such as Diamox). The need varies from person to person, so it’s important to discuss this with your doctor before travelling.
We also recommend checking with your GP or a travel health clinic about vaccinations or boosters for Nepal (such as hepatitis, typhoid, or tetanus), as requirements depend on your personal health history.
