WANDER OFTEN, WONDER ALWAYS

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

General Questions

Our trip grading system considers the Victorian National Parks guidelines with most Wanderlust Trails trips being graded between Grade 2 – 4.

We also classify trips by difficulty – Easy, Intermediate, or Hard — to provide additional clarity.

Each trip is unique and may include challenging aspects, so it’s vital to carefully review the itinerary to ensure it matches your fitness level.

Weather conditions, such as wind, rain, or temperature extremes, can further influence the difficulty, so preparation is key. Even our ‘easy’ trips are designed for adventurous settings—’easy’ doesn’t mean effortless!

A baseline level of physical fitness and a readiness to embrace outdoor challenges are essential for all participants.

Most trips proceed even in wet weather, turning the experience into part of the adventure and challenge. Your guides will evaluate the weather conditions leading up to the trip, and in extreme cases—such as electrical storms or severe heat or fire risks—they may cancel the trip.

In such cases, you’ll have the option to either receive a refund or rebook for another trip.

We understand that plans can change. Please refer to our cancellation policy in the terms and conditions document for details, or contact us directly if you have any concerns.

Generally, our day tours only require 48 hours notice, with longer required for all multi-day tours.

You’re more than welcome to join our tours solo – most of our guests are solo adventurers! Our hikes are a great way to meet like-minded wanderers and enjoy the experience in good company.

Children are not allowed on our tours. You must be 18+ years old to partake in our hiking tours.

This will depend on your travel insurance provider. You will need to contact your insurer for more information.

We recommend Cover More or Alliance.

All trips are arranged and priced based on twin-share accommodation.

For those seeking a private room, a single supplement is available at an additional cost, subject to availability.

Solo travellers will be paired with a fellow adventurer unless they opt to pay the advertised single supplement fee to secure a guaranteed private room.

Clothing and Gear

Dress in layers to adapt to changing weather—opt for wool or sports fibres, insulating layers, and waterproof outerwear.

Cotton is not ideal for hiking because it retains moisture, dries slowly, and loses its insulating properties when wet, which can leave you feeling cold, uncomfortable, and even at risk of hypothermia in cooler conditions.

Wear sturdy footwear with a good grip (hiking boots are not essential but quality active footwear is) and bring essentials like a hat, sunscreen, and a rain jacket to stay comfortable and safe.

We suggest bringing a small backpack to carry your own water bottle, sunscreen and a hat and any personal items you may need.

Check the inclusions of your specific hikes, as hiking snacks and meals are usually provided.

Experience Required and Safety

Yes! We offer a variety of hikes to suit different fitness levels and abilities, from easy, leisurely wanders to more challenging trails.

Each tour description provides details on the level of difficulty so you can choose the hike that’s right for you.

No prior hiking experience is necessary for most of our experiences. Our knowledgeable guides will support you throughout the journey, ensuring you feel comfortable and confident on the trail.

Please read the difficulty rating on your chosen tour before booking to make sure you have the required fitness depending on the tour!

Safety is our top priority. All our guides are trained in first aid, and we carry necessary safety equipment on all tours.

Your lead guide also carries emergency communication equipment to contact Emergency Services should that be required.

We also provide a thorough briefing before each hike to ensure everyone is prepared and comfortable.

If you get injured during a hike, our priority is your safety and wellbeing. Our guides are trained in remote first aid and will assess the situation to provide immediate care.

If the injury requires further attention, we’ll coordinate to get you the necessary assistance, including contacting emergency services if needed.

It is important that you detail any pre-existing medical conditions in your medical form completed when you book.

If you carry any personal medication like Ventolin or EpiPen please ensure you have it with you at all times and and that you have informed your guide before you begin the hike. Rest assured, we’re here to support you every step of the way.
